79 cj7 project
« on: June 07, 2009, 07:54:57 AM »
Hi I'm Mike. My current Jeep is a project Jeep, just like my last one was when I got it. I'm just getting started on this one (had to play with it first!)

here it is the day I picked it up (about a month ago)

here is the tub coming off yesterday

and this is where it is now

I've got a bunch more pics in my photobucket album, and I'm planning to take lots more during the build for any that are interested.

Welcome to the site. It looks like you're off to a good start. What are your plans for it? Restore it to stock?

Current plans are: weld in some new sheet metal to repair the tub, replace the hacked front fenders, replace the windshield frame, get at least a bikini top,  build a suitable roll cage, make some bumpers, install a winch, re-gear, maybe lockers, maybe put in a 4 or 5 spd & a Dana 300, spring over lift, new seats, replace the brake lines (they are in bad shape), and paint it. I'm looking to build a rock crawler/trail rig that's street legal. I'll probably have it on the road in 4-6 months, but it may be a year or 2 before it's done.
